Our annual trips to Nicaragua are always wonderful and this year was no exception. God showed up and showed out! We began on Sunday morning with worship at The Flags where Carlos led the singing and one of our team members brought the message while our younger team members led a Sunday School Class with the children and gave them trinkets and candy. After the worship service we traveled to Leon where we met with Pastor Rito and served at a barrio called “May 28th” on Monday and Tuesday. We built a new larger tin house for a very sweet couple, Miguel and Loyda, and their three precious children. This family of five had been living in a smaller plastic house. Our hearts were broken as we observed their sleeping conditions and Praise the Lord, God made it possible for us to buy them a new bed which included a box spring and legs. As God led the way, Pastor Rito drove some of us to town to shop for the new bed. Not only were they thankful, but others in the barrio were thankful and happy for them too. We also rebuilt the church in the “May 28th” barrio which consisted of an open space with a tin shed supported by old tree limbs. We replaced some of the tin and replaced the tree limbs with new wood. What a blessing it was to help this growing community. We were all blessed as we conducted VBS for the children led by Ann Queen. Our team leader, Becky Quinn conducted a Ladies Bible Study which was well received and we provided approximately 50 bags of food and toiletry items as well as Spanish Bibles to the residents of May 28th. Our food bags of course consisted of rice, beans, corn meal and sugar. On Tuesday night we went to Pastor Rito’s church, La Iglesia Cristo Viene, for a wonderful worship service where Pastor Rito and his music director led in congregational singing and praise. Our team sang several songs and Becky sung a beautiful solo that touched our hearts tremendously. Brad Thompson gave his testimony and Robbie Littlejohn brought the message. What a wonderful way to end the night!
On Wednesday we traveled to Salinas Grandes to visit our dear friends, Pastor Irvin and Ana Maria Ortega. Since they did not already have a bathroom in their house, we built a latrine for them at their home. At lunchtime we went to the beach area at which time Vance Quinn was honored to baptize one of CCM’s own, Jorge Ricardo Castro Morales, who was saved only 4 months ago. God was right there among us and made His presence known. It was an awesome service!!! After lunch we conducted a VBS for the children of Salinas Grandes with singing, praising and testimonies. There were over 100 children in attendance! They always enjoy the surprises of small toys and candy. We also provided about 35 bags of food and toiletry items as we witnessed to the residents of this community.
As always our time flew by. We ended our week by visiting a school near the Leon Mission House where we fed the students a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and Grape Kool-Aid. As we witnessed to the children and teachers we just loved on them and played with the children as we gave them toys and candy. Later that morning, we went to a barrio called “Miracle of God” where we went door to door distributing food bags as we witnessed and prayed with the residents of this community.
As always, the CCM staff was absolutely wonderful. We are so thankful for them and their dedication to this ministry. We love the people of Nicaragua and we give God all the praise and glory for allowing us to be His hands and feet this week as we served Him in a mighty way! God broke us and blessed us each and every day. Our lives have been changed and we will never be the same.
