JONESVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH’S HISTORY
In 1875, Rev. W. L. Brown passed through Jonesville going to El Bethel in Cherokee County. He was so impressed with the need for a pastor in this area that he consented once a month to stop and preach to Baptist believers. A two story building on East Main Street, the Charles Long home, was secured for services.
This church was organized on January 19, 1876 under the leadership of Colonel B. B. Foster and Rev. John G. Landrum. 16 charter members formed the first organization of any denomination in Jonesville. The first pastor was Rev. George S. Anderson. Land was donated in 1877 and men of the congregation cut the wood, sawed it and built the building. This building was used until 1916.
24 pastors have served at Jonesville Baptist for the past 137 years. We are committed to missions by contributing money and sending mission teams to spread the gospel. It is our desire that Jonesville Baptist Church be light in the community around us and share the gospel to the unreached.
